Lisa Groves (Chemistry) - Mrs. Groves has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and a M.Ed degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The Pennsylvania State University.
Mrs. Groves has industrial experience at various manufacturing locations. Mrs. Groves was a Co-op Engineer for the E.I. DuPont De Nemours and Company, a safety and ecology coordinator for BASF Corporation and a Process and Environmental Engineer for Procter and Gamble.
Mrs. Groves has experience teaching in various k-12 classrooms. Mrs. Groves student taught four sections of 11th grade chemistry, co-taught 12th grade general science and 12th grade chemistry II at Tyrone High School.
Mrs. Groves is also heavily involved in the State College community. She currently serves on the State College Area School District Education Board, volunteers as a coordinator for the Penn State Women's Gymnastic Team and is a Junior Girl Scout Troop Leader. Mrs. Groves has also volunteered as Big Sister for the Youth Service Bureau, Cub Scout Leader, clean up coordinator for Graysdale Park and Gray's Woods Elementary and served as President for The Graysdale Homeowners Association.
Malissa A. Mastrine-Martin (Biology) - Mrs. Mastrine-Martin received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University with minors in business and liberal arts. She received her secondary teaching certificate and a Masters of Educational Leadership Degree from Saint Francis University. She also has additional certifications in General Science and Family Consumer Science. Mrs. Mastrine-Martin was chosen to receive Saint Francis University's Outstanding Graduate Education Award. She is a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma, National Honor Society.
Mrs. Mastrine-Martin has worked with the State College Area School District as a long-term substitute in Biology and Earth Science and as a Tutoring Center Supervisor. She was PSSA coordinator and Instructor and At-Risk Coordinator for Central Cambria High School.
Mrs. Mastrine-Martin has served as an instructor for Penn State University in their summer science camps and has work in Project 720 - Increasing Course Rigor grant work in Advanced Placement Biology. She was the Varsity Boys and Girls Assistant Track Coach for two years at Central Cambria High School.
J. Thomas Masullo, Jr. (Spanish, World Languages, Music, Guidance) - Dr. J. Thomas Masullo, former superintendent of the Bellefonte Area School District, brings to Saint Joseph's a wealth of experiences as a business education teacher, secondary guidance counselor, K-12 choral and band teacher, director of curriculum and instruction and high school principal. He has worked with students as a drama director, student council advisor, class advisor, ensemble director, choral director, career and crisis counselor and Spanish tutor.
Dr. Masullo received bachelor's degrees in business education and Spanish, a master's degree in counselor education, a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction and teaching certifications in music and Spanish from Penn State. A believer in lifelong education, he is currently pursuing teaching certification in French and Italian. Dr. Masullo has won several awards, including most recently an Outstanding Service award for Communities That Care and the Outstanding Superintendent Award from the Pennsylvania Music Education Association. Within the community, Dr. Masullo is a former organist for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; music director for the Hispanic mass at Penn State; and a member of the Bellefonte Kiwanis Club.
Shelly Mato (English) - Shelly has a BA in History, minor in English from Franklin and Marshall College, an MA in History from Carnegie Melon, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from St. Michael's College. She holds certifications in English and Social Studies and received the ETS Recognition of Excellence for her outstanding Praxis score in English Language, Literature and Composition.
Mrs. Mato has taught English and Language Arts at the secondary level for 17 years, and developed challenging integrated programs for students in grades 6 through 12. As a founding teacher of Greenwood Friend's Middle School, Shelly had the opportunity to design English and Social Studies curricula that addressed state standards while providing meaningful and engaging units for her students. Working with motivated students, involved families, and committed fellow teachers allowed Mrs. Mato to provide English and Social Studies programs that went far beyond traditional middle-school activities. For example, her literature unity included Shakespeare, classics such as The Grapes of Wrath and The Odyssey, and a wide variety of world literature. Several of her students saw writing that began as a school assignment accepted in local and national publications.
Mrs. Mato also has experience working with college students, including non-traditional students and students who struggle academically, especially in writing. She is currently teaching English 101 and 102 for Thomas Jefferson University. Mrs. Mato has designed middle school and high school courses that address many of the fundamentals in critical reading, writing, and research. She also has designed challenging integrated college-level courses that combine instruction in compositional strategies, a variety of writing assignments, and reading skill development through a diverse selection of fiction, non-fiction, and business pieces. She stresses the use of the writing process and provides meaningful feedback to students throughout the process in order to lead them to produced finished pieces that demonstrate critical thinking and competence in organization, writing mechanics and grammar, and complex and correct sentence structure.
Mrs. Mato is committed to meeting individual students' needs to help them achieve their greatest potential. She believes that students have untapped gifts and strengths and that excellent teaching, supportive instruction, and appropriate and challenging tasks can lead them to discover these gifts in themselves and in each other.
Shelly and her husband and three children are members of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
Heather McQueary (Art) - Mrs. McQueary received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from The Pennsylvania State University.
Mrs. McQueary has taught art at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Elementary School for grades 1 through 8 and at full day summer camp program through State College Area School District. At Our Lady of Victory, Mrs. McQueary developed an art program that is utilized by 1st through 8th grade students. She created and maintains an annual school wide art show and organizes an annual art fundraiser. Mrs. McQueary also developed an after school camp and elective art class at OLV for students looking to further their art experience. Every summer, Mrs. McQueary develops and integrates accelerated arts lessons for children during a summer camp offered through State college Area School District.
Also, Mrs. McQueary is an art instructor at The Kennedy Dance Centre in Bellefonte. Since 1996, Mrs. McQueary has provided the visual art component of The Kennedy Centre's integrative summer arts camp.
Mrs. McQueary is affiliated with The Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) and The National Art Education Association (NAEA). Mrs. McQueary also serves as a volunteer for the LOGOS Youth Ministry Group at State College Presbyterian Church.
John R. Roche (Theology and Social Studies) - Mr. Roche received his bachelor's degree in history and his secondary education certification from Saint Francis in 2010. While a student, Mr. Roche was a history and French tutor; a resident counselor for two dormitories, a school tutor for Saint Michael's Catholic School; vice president of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity; and a lay minister with the Campus Ministry Department. He was selected for induction into the Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society), Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honor Society), Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honor Society), Delta Epsilon Sigma (Catholic Scholastic Honor Society) and Saint Francis Honor Society and the Who's Who Among American College Students; he also received the Saint Francis Outstanding Secondary Education Student Award and was a finalist for the university's Mr. Frankie Award (top male student in each graduating class). Mr. Roche recently returned from France where he was the residence director for Saint Francis University.
Paula Rodkey (Mathematics) - Mrs. Rodkey has a BS in Secondary Mathematics Education from The Pennsylvania State University and a Level II Instructional Certificate for Mathematics grades 7 through 12.
Mrs. Rodkey served as a math teacher for Juniata Valley High School for eleven years having taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. At Juniata Valley, Mrs. Rodkey also served as a Student Council Advisor, Math Counts Advisor, Track and Field Judge, Acting Department Coordinator, mentor teacher, and as chaperone for dances and class trips. She has extensive experience in math curriculum writing, evaluation, alignment and assessment, and coordinating Pennsylvania standards, PSSA and SAT requirements. She has her students engaged in philanthropic endeavors such as United Way and Relay for Life. Mrs. Rodkey is an instructor in the Adult Continuing Education Program, a private math tutor and a piano teacher.
Mrs. Rodkey is a youth group leader, missions and outreach coordinator, and a Sunday School Teacher for her church. She also serves her church as a pianist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Mrs. Rodkey received the PHEAA Scholars in Education Award and grant for four consecutive years from 1990 to 1993.
Mrs. Rodkey lives in Huntingdon with her husband Brett and their three children.
