Career & Academic Portfolio
The portfolio is a cumulative document that is meant to show growth, be used for reflection, and ultimately guide students and their parents.
Every student has strengths or potential strengths that can be used as a foundation for effective learning and creative productivity (Rees & Renzulli, 1985). SJCA will use a school-wide enrichment model that capitalizes on these strengths by offering the student options for realizing their own potential. The portfolio serves as the framework by which the elements of this model are organized.
The Rees & Renzulli Model requires that we give equal attention to interests and learning styles as well as to cognitive abilities. The portfolio is a vehicle for gathering and recording information about students' abilities, interests and learning styles.
Students achieve autonomy and ownership of their academic portfolio by assuming a major responsibility in the selection of items to be included, by maintaining and regularly updating the portfolio and by setting personal goals about items they would like to include in the portfolio. Parents and teachers should serve as a guide in the portfolio process.
The portfolio will be reviewed yearly by parents, students and faculty. The structured activities for the portfolio will be done in workshops, in activity periods and in certain classes.
